The ToddlerMania Challenge
This is a repost to the new Challenges forum. Please post new scores and questions to this thread. The original thread is here: http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?&openItemID=item.82,root.1,item.43,item.61,item.23&threadID=7cc1776a307135c94096e2643b2ace15&directoryID=22&startRow=1#b5267610e407177e442855ff22100af5
WARNING: This challenge is not for the faint of heart, those who hate micro-management, or those looking for a ‘relaxing’ time playing TS2.
GOAL: Raise 7 toddlers to children while racking up as many points as possible, and minimizing penalties. (It’s only 4 sim days, you can do it).
HOW TO PLAY:
1. Create a family of 7 toddlers and 1 adult parent. Choose the aspiration and personalities that you think will help you the most.
2. Move the family into any large lot.
3. Use the ‘motherlode’ cheat to make your family fabulously wealthy.
4. (Optional) Save, exit, and package the lot to a file so you can easily start from scratch should you need/want to.
5. Build the best ‘Toddler-Rearing Institute’ you can. Optimize the entire house to raising 7 toddlers. Use every trick you can think of (or research on the BBS) to assist you. The only limitation:
you can have a maximum of 14 training potties.
6. Save (I recommend packaging the lot again too).
7. Play the game, raising all 7 toddlers to childhood.
8. The challenge ends when the last toddler ages to a child. Pause the game, and total up your points.
RULES:
1. You may not turn aging off.
2. Your adult may not get a job.
3. You may use any money cheat at any time.
4. You may save the game, rework your house, and/or reload after bad events as many times as you want.
5. The moveobjects cheat is allowed only for bugged items. You generally may not move sims with this cheat (I will allow a -5 penality if you do). If your sims get stuck in a jam, chaulk it up to bad house design, rework your house, and try again.
6. You can use the ME_Energizer Painting, available at modthesims2.com.
7. You may not use any other cheats or hacked objects.
8. You may not sell ‘full’ training potties in buy mode and purchase new ‘empty’ ones.
9. You may not use the ‘Leave World’ option to replenish your sim’s needs. (I don’t know if this works for toddlers anyways.)
10. Aspiration rewards are fair game, if you earn them.
11. If the social worker takes any kids, or your parent dies – you lose. Either reload or start over. Dying nannies are ok (but you can’t use a cheat to kill them).
12. You may sell/replace any items needing repair.
SCORING:
1. +3 points for each toddler skill (potty, walk, talk) each toddler learns (max 63 pts)
2. +3 points for each toddler that grows up well (determined by the memories of the parent)
3. +1/2 point for each skill point earned by all toddlers
4. +3 points for each toddler that ages to child in platinum (stacks with growing up well)
5. -2 points for each use of the Energizer painting
6. -2 points each time you hire a nanny
7. +1 point each time a nanny pees herself
8. -5 points each time your parent passes out from exhaustion
9. -5 points for each visit from the Sim Therapist
10. -1 point for each baby bottle you delete from buy mode
11. -5 points if you use moveobjects to move any sim for any reason
ADVANCED SCORING (OPTIONAL):
1. -1 point for each toddler that passes out on the floor
2. -1 point for each diaper changed
3. -1 point for each social worker warning message you get
See next post for comments/tips/explanations.

ToddleMania Pt 2.
COMMENTS:
The foundation of this challenge is house design. A well designed ‘Toddler-Rearing Institute’ will make things much easier. To get a good score, you will need to decide what penalties you are willing to take, in order to be able to score points. You will have to strategize. Your score may well be in the negative until the very end. Search the BBS for tips on rearing twin toddlers for some really good ideas, and think carefully about everything you know about sim traffic congestion, toddler behavior, nanny quirks, etc.
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
The Energizer Painting maximizes needs when you have a sim ‘Think of.’ I wanted to provide a way for people to play without having to deal with the nannies. There are other ways to maximize needs. I like this one because it won’t work on toddlers. If you prefer an alternate method, I will allow it, but only if you follow the spirit of the rule: only the parent may use it, and -2 each time you max out the parent’s needs. Whatever you decide, you may not tinker the any sim’s aspiration level, or aspiration score. The painting is compatible with the University EP.
I played the basic idea out once then thought up the rules and scoring. Then replayed it to get a score (see original thread for the post). The first time, I had to start over 2x redesigning the house. I also got so frustrated with the nannies, I started using the painting.
Please post your scores on this thread. Also include at least one tip that helped you out. I'll start out with 2 tips. Tip: putting the toilets in sunken or raised floors nicely prevents toddlers from playing in the toilet. Also, make each toddler a different skin color to help you find the one you want. I didn't try to optimize toddler personality when I played, so I don't know how this might affect the game. I WAS able to get each toddler potty trained, but that was all.
Took me about 2-3 hours to do the whole thing. Good luck.

Yes I did. ThSmGeek also has a challenge website. I'll try and remember to update this with the link. His Challenge Guide was moving around a bit when he first put it together. It's nice to see it finally found a decent home.

If you want to use the boolprop cheat INSTEAD of the ME_Energizer Painting, then I'll allow it with these restictions:
- you cannot use it for any other purpose
- you can only use it on the 1 adult (can't use the mailbox options at all)
- you must take a penality for it just like the painting
- you must max all needs for the adult when you do use it
I hope that's clear. I know some people prefer not to use hacks, so I'll allow this limited use of the boolprop cheat because it accomplishes the same thing. You'll have to enter the cheat in the neighborhood view, the click on each need bar to maximize it.

Maybe an hour or 2 to do the house. Probably 1-2 to actually play the challenge. The first house was a bomb (the adult, 2 toddlers, and the nanny all got stuck) so I did some revisions. Then I did the whole thing again to score myself after I wrote it up. Probably 6-10 total. But it could be a lot less if you don't make any bad design decisions on the house like I did.

Yeah, sure. As long as I get credit. If you change it around, just note the inspiration.
This is optional, but you might want to include a link to this page so that people who find the challenge on your website and decide to do it, can come here to check out scores that other people have posted. There aren't any scores on this thread yet, but there are some on the original thread (which I've linked to above just for that purpose).

Don't give up! It's hard to do. Remember your sim does not need a job, and you've got unlimited financial funds to build the perfect house for toddler raising. Just by hiring enough nannies, you should be able to get to the end without any being taken by the social worker. Hiring a maid is a big help too.
Check out the original thread for a buch of tips and timesavers people used. But beware, some people mis-read the rules so broke some of them when they played.

I just did it! it only took me like 2 hours, I didnt put major planning into anything because I wanted to do it for fun.. but if I had more time I would do better!
-6 nannies
-6 energizer
+2 nannies peeing
+21 grow up wells and 1 platinum
+33 walking/potty/talking
+9 skill points
=53
Not too great a score, but this challenge was super fun!!!
Tips: Put all of the same skill building objects (like just xylophones) that way they can only earn that skill point instead of skipping from one to another. Second, when you have a nanny, after she gets out a few bottles delete the fridge. That way she focuses on other things rather than just handing out bottles to non-hungry toddlers.

Timnop146 - Make your own family. Pick whatever personalities you think will help you out the most. I made each toddler a different custom color I got from the exchange (yellow, red, white, black, blue, green, purple) just so I could tell them apart quickly. Also, pick the adult you want - personality and aspiration. I used Family, but from the responses on the original thread, it sounded like knowledge or fortune would have been a better choice.
lexsi340 - Yes. Use any house you want. You have unlimited use of the motherlode cheat to optimize the house to make managing 7 toddlers at once as easy as you can. Part of this challenge is the design of the house. You are free to build or alter whatever you want.

I have got to say that this is my favorite challenge. I have been playing it since very soon after the original post and my toddler houses (4 now) are in their own section of town (the neighbors couldn't stand the whining and crying). With nannies, without nannies, with maids and without. All sorts of Sims as the adult (hint: the WORST Sims are Romance and Popularity for obvious reasons). The best tips (remember who you are getting these from-I have never got a super score and am still trying): use Smart Milk freely and get the toilet stall not a regular toilet as the toddlers can't get into the stall to play in the toilet and believe me, with this many rug rats around, they will get into the toilet. Another useful design tip-seven 4 tile sized rooms along a hall way so each toddler in the crib has his/her own "room" and doesn't get waken by the screaming of the others. Boy, those toddlers got short tempers!

I did the same thing and connected with rooms with a double wide arch instead of doors. The alcove still functions like a room to limit the effect of screaming and sims don't get stuck so much.

I had a go of this one, and I'd say I didn't do well. The tots certainly weren't a happy bunch, and when they became children, they started fighting with one another. I didn't toilet train a single one of them, but I certainly spent enough time trying to.
I had:
7 nannies -14pts
10 or so incidents of toddlers passing out -12pts
5 toddlers who grew up well +15pts
21 skills learnt by the tots +63pts
and the nannies had 7 or so accidents +7pts
My total score is: 49pts.
I made two houses on the lot, with the mother's bed, a kitchen and three bathrooms in one and a large playroom, four fridges and 7 bedrooms (read cells) in the other. This worked fine until the nannies started carting the tots across to bathe them in the mother's bathrooms, as then the mother had to move them back, or had her sleep interrupted. I had put the bathrooms separate from the tots so that they wouldn't flood the place, but as the nannies had accidents they flooded the place with those. My tip would be to clean up after the nannies, as the room became so unpleasant that neither the nannies or the mother would follow direcions as they were too busy pulling their hair out and screaming at me.
I couldn't keep track of the nappies... they disappeared when the chage table was used, and I had quite a few nannies. My sim mother changed about 8.
There is another toddler challenge that sounds more manageable... I'm going to try that one next.

Congratulations, Trey! You have created a challenge that put me in my place! I thought I was an expert micromanager- started out thinking, "It can't be that hard- I have a plan!" Five minutes later, you can bet I had shut up and scrapped my wonderful plan.
A tip that helped me: Myne door, claimed and locked by parent, leading into bedroom containing piano, which leads to bathroom with stalls. Lots of nanny pee and no nanny jammin'. Also, mansard roof to toss junk bought for aspiration points up out of the way. A few trash compactors in the potty room lets you empty, cancel empty, and drop a pile of trash on the floor. Make your potty chair rounds while the maid is in the room and he/she will clean up the trash. My parent Sim is so marrying Remington someday.
SCORING:
1. +3 points for each toddler skill (potty, walk, talk) each toddler learns (max 63 pts)
5 potty trains = 15 points
2. +3 points for each toddler that grows up well (determined by the memories of the parent)
All 7, thank goodness = 21 points
3. +1/2 point for each skill point earned by all toddlers
28 creativity points total = 14 points
4. +3 points for each toddler that ages to child in platinum (stacks with growing up well)
5 Miracle Mites = 15 points
5. -2 points for each use of the Energizer painting
I used boolprop for parent needs only, 6 times = -12 points
6. -2 points each time you hire a nanny
4 nannies, 2 of whom never left = -8 points
7. +1 point each time a nanny pees herself
Nanny pee galore = 9 points
8. -5 points each time your parent passes out from exhaustion - never
9. -5 points for each visit from the Sim Therapist - never
10. -1 point for each baby bottle you delete from buy mode - never
11. -5 points if you use moveobjects to move any sim for any reason - never
So... 54 points total. Thanks for coming up with this one Trey! I'll probably give it another shot!

You can have a completely furnished house if you wish. That's fine.
You can use boolprop ONLY to max the needs of the adult parent. NOT any of the toddlers (so, no Make All Happy on the mail box). This is instead of using the painting (available from variousimmers.net in Merola's forum). You get the same -2 penalty every time you use boolprop (or the painting) to max the needs of the adult sim. When you do max the needs, max all of them at the same time (you can pause the game to do so).

3 pts for each skill. So 9.
If you have 2 toddlers that learned the potty, walking, and talking, that would be 18 pts.
etc.
